Ask Dr. Sue: A board certified internist and women's health specialist

About Me

Let me introduce myself – My name is Dr. Susan Cole and I am writing to you from Peoria, Illinois.  I received my undergraduate degree in biology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.  I attended medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and in Peoria.  I did my internship and residency at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, becoming board certified in internal medicine in 1982.

I have practiced internal medicine and pediatrics in Pekin IL (1982-1983); Wheaton IL (1983-1985); Angola, Africa (1986-1992); and Peoria IL (1992-present).  I am an associate clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of Illiniois College of Medicine – Peoria.  I serve as a member of the medical advisory board on women’s health for the Office of Women’s Health, Illinois Department of Public Health.

My most recent position has been as medical director for Women’s Services at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.  I have experience in all areas of women’s health including menopause, infertility, depression, addiction, chronic pain, weight management and sexual dysfunction.  I believe in a holistic approach to health and wellness, and regularly prescribe alternative/lifestyle therapies including natural family planning.

This is getting too long!  Suffice it to say, in the past 10 years I have concentrated on women’s health and studying why women have different responses to disease and to the treatments we have to offer.  I have also become convinced that we need to learn to celebrate our bodies, the remarkable way we were designed as women and to encourage each other to be more proactive in staying healthy.
